I think the LM10 or LM12 (can’t remember which one is the really shallow bowl with the undercut rim) is the one that commands four figures on the auction block.MiBrassFS wrote: Sun Apr 06, 2025 4:58 am I’m 99% sure I have a NOS LM5 in a box here. Should I sell it?

Daaaaaaang…
Regardless, if you’ve got something like that and have no need for it, sell it.

Wait - they are getting 4 figures for these? Why? I’m guessing the LM-12 is in huge demand by college marching bands. I’m surprised they haven’t restarted production. I never cared for it though I hung onto it. The LM-10 (the design they made for Tommy Johnson) I like and use in my 185. Mine are the older two piece style.

The LM12 prices have come down a lot since Giddings started selling the Jon Gross, from well over $1000 to ~$500, It was mostly internet lore about the magical super shallow LM-12 that will make you crank like an HBCU star even though you are a freshman in highschool and can barely lift a Sousa up.
I got to play both the LM12 and the Jon Gross side by side.. The Giddings piece is much more comfortable and almost as punchy. All in all a much better mouthpiece. Still not my cup of tea though.

As amateur as they come...I know just enough to be dangerous.

I had an ultra shallow, undercut rim LOUD prototype (13? 14? Don’t remember what it was called). The guy I sold it to went berserk when I showed it to him. That rim was crazy. He was happy, I was happy.
Re: Should I sell it? (LM5)
Those are hilariously expensive… They have been for quite some time. And that’s coming from someone who has like 10 Houser 3 piece models, but I’ve never paid close to that for any of mine. Why are these so expensive?

I do have a bit of this stuff left (and have sold a bunch). Most of it is NOS still in the original packaging I bought in a lot. Please don’t bother with messages of “no one wants them anymore, but I’ll help you out. Here’s $1.59, etc.” It will not work. I’m also not interested in any sort of trade. I want to lessen the amount of stuff here, not collect more.
Thanks for reading!
