Meinl Weston 45k F tuba

Post by southtubist »

For sale is a Meinl Weston 45k (Heiko Triebener model) in F with a dependent flat whole step 5th valve. This is a great playing tuba- it got me through Interlochen and into a good performance major program, but life got in the way and I haven't had many opportunities to play over the past decade.

These tubas are pretty rare in the U.S. This is essentially an older small bell rotary valve MW45, but the 5th valve is inside the 4th valve circuit. It also has a 2nd valve slide trigger that I used on 2+4 fingerings. This tuba makes a great big sound and has a fairly easy low register for a smaller rotary F tuba. I played everything on this tuba and only used my CC tuba when absolutely necessary. Penderecki's Capriccio was a lot of fun on this tuba.

The bell is not original- the original bell cracked and was not repairable, so I had it replaced with a brand new bell by Joe Sellmansberger. He also reworked the valves and slides. I kept the original bell so that the future owner can have the original engraving cloned to the new bell. Tuba comes with an Altieri gig bag. I believe I also have the factory hard case, but I will have to find it first.

Price is $4500. I strongly prefer cash, but might consider a wire or a cashier's check printed in my presence. I am willing to drive a reasonable distance to meet a buyer, but if you come to me I can accommodate a trial session.

Tuba is located in Columbus, MS. Please contact via email at porterm235@gmail.com if you are interested. I cannot get PM's for some reason.
