Professional relacquer and done very well. Last run of the 1241 with the top pull 1st valve slide, that's a Beaut! (May not ship to the U.S.A. though).

That's a really nice looking horn at a very fair price.

Unless you could order one from the factory back in 78-79 when this one was made and (not) have it sprayed with Eastlake Orange then possible it's original but I've not heard such a thing to be true. Not impossible, but not that probable.

I bought a new 1241 back in 1979 (ordered from the factory) and if I remember correctly, it did not have the Eastlake orange lacquer, nor do I remember asking for it to be lacquered that way.

Maybe when you order it yourself, they have a difference process. All the Eastlake Orange ones could have been the mass produced school horns?

2341s from the 80s were certainly the typical clear lacquer.

I’d hazard a guess that the gold tint lacquer started being phased out in the 1960s. This is mainly from seeing King trombones from the 60s and 70s. I’m pretty sure a lot of the 2Bs and 3Bs from the 1970s are clear lacquer.

Maybe possible - I was 16 years old at the time and I don’t remember much about it other than my teacher (Don Butterfield) facilitated the purchase. Is it possible he specified clear lacquer? I have no idea.

FWIW, he also tried to talk me into getting a 1240, but that I specifically remember vetoing that idea.

(Even though I was only 16 years old, the horn was purchased with my own money, saved after several years of cutting lawns, washing cars, shoveling snow, delivering newspapers, and other similar endeavors.)

I've seen many late 1970's even up to 1980 or so (non top pull 1241's) with the Eastlake Orange on them. For reference and if you have a couple hours to check out all these serial numbers and horns here (https://marge.home.xs4all.nl/king_2340_ ... EOkaGhKhPb) you will see this to be true. I agree the mid 80's and up went to a more gold lacquer instead of the burnt orange though. Thank goodness.
