SF Bay CL: 1920s King 1240 Recording Bass

Fair amount of wear and some big dents, but the price is low. These are good horns even with only 3 valves.

Note to tire kickers: This tuba has a FIXED recording bell, and I agree — they play very well for three-bangers. This is a great traditional jazz tuba for the price. Even if the valves are fairly shot, the pistons are not difficult to find used, and the casings are *probably* going to be adequate. The metal on these is thicker, so that bottom bow will make a Dent Monkey like me sweat quite a bit making it look nice. It would have to be removed to do the work. The bell is not as bad as it looks. The bottom bow would likely cost more to fix than the bell.

I picked this up. It was a 5 min drive from my shop. Serial # 113xxx. The valves have plenty of wear but I am not sure it is a problem. Plays okay and they are bone dry. I will get some oil on them tomorrow. It conveniently came with the stand - I plan to make it the "shop horn." On display and available for breaks.

Anyone know who made this stand? My very first tuba came with one, too.

You got it! I am sure I am not the only one!

Adolfo saw it this morning and said, "Is this the museum?..." I have a couple of wall-hanger trombones at home. I should bring them up there, too.
