New bell on a Conn 24
I know I’ve seen people put New bells on recording bell tubas (removing the stack as well) usually like a Conn 36. Any ideas as to which bells might be large enough to work on a 50’s Conn 24??

Re: New bell on a Conn 24
This doesn't answer your question but I was watching an old black and white Welk show. Buddy Hayes was his bass and tuba player and he used quite a few different horns over the years including a rotary no name horn that I bought in Woodland Hills, Ca. that was great. But on this particular show he had a Conn 24/5 J with a fixed upright bell and it sounded Really good. So there are compatible bells for those big Conns, and this particular one made a terrific sound so if you do the measurements and post them where repairmen, dealers, and even manufactures can read them mabye you'll get lucky. Good Luck, Ed

Just for entertainment I went to YouTube, typed in Lawrence Welk Black and White and when the list came up scrolled down to "My Blue Heaven 1964" Buddy plays tuba on Josephine and Tic Toc Polka. I'm not sure when he left the band but after a few, bass only, replacements Richie Maloof came in and was there to the end of the shows.Ed

To Ed's point, try asking Martin Wilk. I know Paul Scott had him find a good replacement bell to use on one of his Martin tubas, and Paul said MAW had a real knack for finding bells that would work.
