Re: Brass Against
They are quite good. Not sure if they are still gigging with that same lead singer.
Edited:
They are. She has a great sound. Hopefully she’s got herself together now.

Re: Brass Against
To my ears, the star (and the glue) of the group is the baritone saxophone player. Apparently he does the arrangements.

Re: Brass Against
A favorite. Their covers of Rage Against the Machine (eponymous) and Tool tracks are especially good, but I haven't heard a bad track from them. Agree that the bari sax is their backbone, but their whole horn section (especially the bones) is solid.

Re: Brass Against
I just wish the cameraperson would stay still. There are many videos of this style, the camera just moves around constantly and for me, it's nearly unwatchable. There's a name for that style, but I forget what it is. It's supposed to be more dynamic and engaging, more like it would be live and in-person. I don't care for it, though.
Re: Brass Against
The Roots have the same issue. I don't think I ever heard their tuba player until I found a Tiny Desk video with them on YT. "Turn it up!"
I like the moving camera. A fixed image isn't very interesting.

Re: Brass Against
Here's a live recording. Different singer than most of the videos above. Kinda like you've mentioned about the Roots, more tuba can be heard in the live recording.
Go to 0:28:31 if the video link doesn't go right there. It's Led Zeppelin's Kashmir with horns only. There's a tuba solo! Beware if you watch the whole video, there's a lot of profanity.

To be honest, I think I'm just listening 90% of the time, not watching all that much.bort2.0 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 1:34 pm I just wish the cameraperson would stay still.
