Point spreads were fairly typical except in 3rd section places 3, 4, and 5, all of whom were within less than 2/3 of a point.

I did not see the Championship section test pieces and am told that Fountain City really played that piece well.

I did see all the Championship section contestants play their choice pieces. James Madison University was extremely impressive. It was also very encouraging to see a stage full of young folk competing as most other bands have a significant number of older, grey-haired folk like me.

I thought that Fountain City's choice piece was played very well but was missing some extra fire or excitement. The Georgia Brass Band's piece used the players blowing on bottles in the middle section (?) that I found very intriguing, though one could argue that it wasn't very brass-bandy.

The Chicago Brass was also quite good. Their director commanded not only the band but the audience. Many of the directors lead with quite a bit of flair. Atlantic did not impress me. Colorado seemed a bit out of their league.

The last band of the evening was the Youth Championship section Watson Brass Band. Wow! Even though it had been a long day, the crowd really responded to their fantastic performance.

I enjoyed it! I have never played in a Brass Band so I do not necessarily know what to listen for. I just know what I liked. I was only there because my son is in the Brass Band of Huntsville and he invited us to come down. I hope to attend the next 2 years while the championships are in Huntsville. Maybe I'll get hooked!

Agreed. We enjoyed seeing them at the last Army Conference we attended.

The next two years will also be in Huntsville? That's great! It means I can reasonably drive with a tuba instead of trying to fly with one.

For those who missed NABBA or parts of it, this year and 2019 are archived on brasspass.tv, including the interviews with the conductors in the main hall. Sound quality is quite good.

They have yearly, quarterly, and monthly subscriptions, which can be canceled at any time. There is an amazing amount of British Brass Band goodness here going back to 2018, including a number of great bands, British and European championships, festivals, and so on. I paid about £70 for a year, I think quarterly is about £20, and monthly is about £13. In 2019 I listened for a while and then they cheerfully cancelled with no difficulties when I requested.
