Hey, this is the elephant. I managed to lock myself out of my main account when I updated my email address. I fixed it, though. Never mind.

Re: THE PANDEMIC DUOS (Another Elephant Freebie)
I have updated the link to a copy with some corrections (well, missing expressions) that a user kindly pointed out. If you downloaded this prior to Thursday at 9:00 a.m. Central time you will want to download it again.
I am seeking feedback for corrections so I can submit this for publication, so this link will be updated every time I make corrections to the file. When I do that I will post it in this thread. This process usually takes about a week or two, depending on how aggressively some of you guys work through the book and provide me with errata. Sorry about this process, but it works faster this way. I will eventually lock down the book and post a final link. Note that these are usually small omissions like dynamics or a missing text expression in one part or the other. It is all stuff you can figure out easily as you play through the book. I am trying to get rid of all needed pencil corrections and (eventually) provide a very clean copy.
The link in the first post has been corrected to point to a new copy.
Thanks for your patience as I tidy up this collection. Yes, some of this material was in an older duet book. All the articulations, phrasing, and dynamics are mine or are in the originals. I used the source materials for just about all of this stuff. No, I am not just reprinting other people's work. I worked my ass off on this project for years.
Thanks very much for playing through this book. For any of you who are donating money to me for a copy, you have no idea how much good you are doing. Thank you so much.

Re: THE PANDEMIC DUOS (Another Elephant Freebie)
Thank you! I have to either find a willing tuba player or a tuba itself and then a willing horn player. Or I could play with myself, I guess.

Re: THE PANDEMIC DUOS - Now with Euph!
Okay, after about six requests via Facebook and one irritated voicemail from a high school band friend, I have knocked out a euphonium part.
IT IS VERY HIGH, as this is intended for a French hornist. Still, I know some of you eupher boys and girls have super-duper chops, so good luck.
IT IS VERY CRAMPED because I set it in BC and it is all ledger lines. It is hard to read a lot of it, at least with my old, beady eyes. Again, good luck. Read the EDIT note in the first post.
Link updated. If you want what I believe to be the final version of this part AND/OR want the euphonium part, DOWNLOAD THIS AGAIN.
Thanks…

Re: THE PANDEMIC DUOS - Now with Euph!
An alternative for euphonium players who don't want to feel left out is to find a horn player for the top part and play the tuba parts on euphonium. There's stuff that's below the staff, but not a whole lot, and you can take those bits up (or use them for pedal practice).the elephant wrote: ↑Thu May 19, 2022 3:33 pm Okay, after about six requests via Facebook and one irritated voicemail from a high school band friend, I have knocked out a euphonium part.

Re: THE PANDEMIC DUOS - Now with Euph!
I updated it. There is a (very hard) euphonium part, now. The tuba part has limited range as it was written for F tuba specifically.
My wife and I performed most of these for years, and I used a little Yamaha 621 F with a Laskey 30C against her Conn 8D horn, and that combo matched very nicely. I don't like it as much with my big Kurath F as it becomes pretty bottom-heavy with the louder, bigger Kurath.
However, we recently noted that my 1971 186 CC is a very solid pairing with her Conn, so we may revisit this material again, soon. The Miraphone is a bigger tuba, but it can be played more lightly; it can play bigger when I want it to, but it has a more deft touch up high when played softly. IMHO, the 186 is a better design for a do-it-all tuba, whereas I use the Kurath as more of a specialty horn.
Anyway, that was what was guiding me as I arranged this stuff. The euph part I added to this file is simply a bass clef horn part. That means while it occasionally gets into a register best left to very advanced players, it stays just below that for most of the book. I do not consider it to be a good book for euphonium: it is taxing, fatiguing, and does not sound all that good. Had I wanted to pen arrange a book of duets for euph and tuba the entire book would be different — not one of these arrangements would be as it is right now. The whole book would be something like a P4 lower in pitch, and some of the tunes would be different.
Maybe I'll do that.
But that would involve a good two weeks of editing the two parts. It is not simply clicking the Transpose button as EVERY slur, articulation, and expression would have to be physically adjusted because Finale's default placements are crap.
I altered 100% of everything to get these parts to look the way I want. Transposing the book would involve restoring every bit of information to default and then hand-setting every, single thing again, which I don't want to do.
But again…
Maybe I'll do that.
There are certainly more euphoniumists looking to play duets with a tuba player than there are bored French hornists who want to play duets with a tuba player out there in the wild.

I understood the first part (and quoted it), and assumed the latter.the elephant wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 5:42 am I updated it. There is a (very hard) euphonium part, now. The tuba part has limited range as it was written for F tuba specifically.

I guess my main point was about the range: if you did have a bored horn player and didn’t have a tuba, you could mostly play the tuba part on a euphonium. Or a bassoon or bari sax.
They are very nice arrangements.

Re: THE PANDEMIC DUOS - Now with Euph!
Well, I find that we seem to be rained out of life for the next three or four days, so I can't cut the grass or solder stuff outside, and I have no gigs until this next weekend.
So *guess* what I'm now spending my day doing (and making super-fast progress)…
Yes, that is correct. I am completely re-setting this book for tuba and euphonium. I am not just putting the 1st part down an octave (or leaving it up high where the original horn part lives). I am re-pitching every last one of them to be accessible by a pair of aggressive players.
Three hours into it and I have reset the score (that you guys do not get to see) and both parts up through page seven out of thirty-nine.

That’s fast!
If you make the euphonium part also available in treble clef, so it’s trumpet friendly, I’ll buy another copy.

Re: THE PANDEMIC DUOS - Please Read if You Downloaded a Copy!
The MUCH BETTER VERSION of this book is about halfway completed. John, your trumpet comment made me do some thinking and I got to work right away. I spend about ten hours on it today and may have it completed by Wednesday. Most of it is down a fourth or fifth in range, and a TC book you can use with a euph or a trumpet is part of it. Thanks for the idea, sir!
