Swiss 2 franc coins are just about an inch in diameter.

I just purchased two 1989 Swiss 2 Franc coins. I was going to use 20 Rappen coins but they are the size of US nickels, and these levers are far enough apart that this size would just sort of look "wrong". The larger 2 fr. coins will look more appropriate, and they are both from 1989. I ought to receive them at the end of this month.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I think I may place one up and one down, so you can see both sides (and the year). Should be a fun addition to this tuba.

Here is a very cool-looking obverse/obverse mockup I just did. (I am leaning towards obverse/reverse, but pasting in two of the same face was easier to do for now.)

It is nice to have my summers off so that I can piss away my life doing stuff like making this photograph. HAHAHA!!!

This looks a little more realistic. I needed to make the coin image a bit smaller to be more accurate, but you get the idea. (This is using Joe's above image.)

Yes, but fingering a bare chested Liberty is even more appealing.

Okay, so this "problem" actually seems to be of more than a passing interest to some people, so after several emails and messages and a phone call from an old tuba player friend of mine, I decided to gin up a second shot with the display of both sides of the coins, as I described above as my preference.

I am torn between obverse/obverse and obverse/reverse. Here are both, back to back. (I like this topic as I get to type "obverse" over and over…)

I like this better because I want the year visible. The smaller coins I had first wanted to use (but that were too small for these wide-set levers) had the country and year on the obverse face. So with these larger coins, one of each is my current preference. The issue is not how they look by themselves as in the photos, but how they will look ON THE HORN, and I think both will look fine.

This, admittedly, looks better aesthetically, but no date. The idea was to have both the country and year visible. However, while not married to either orientation, I *did* pay a bit extra to ensure that I receive two 1989 coins, and I would hate to bury that little bit of detail under the lever bar and silver solder.

I think the mix/match of the obverse and reverse is a nice touch.

The coins on my tuba are all heads up, where the pretty is. :tuba:

YMMV.

Can you do 4 heads on the right hand valves and two tails on the left??

It is a piston horn, so no platens are needed on them. Just the 5th and 6th are rotary valves and have levers in need of platens.

If your tuba was built in 1989, then maybe the mix and match. You're very intentional about everything, so I'm pretty sure it probably was built in 1989.

For my own OCD though, they would have to be the same and I probably pick the side with the person.

Yes, it was built in 1989, which is why I got a pair of 1989 coins rather than just two with nice obverse faces.

You won't be able to see them unless you pick up the horn to play it, as these are nestled behind the 1st slide, so it really does not matter. This is why I was considering two 25 x 2 mm nickel silver discs. I still might do this, so I would end up with four Swiss Francs that won't ever get spent on anything.

Whatever. I am just interested in what others would do. It's a fun diversion while I am unable to work until some fresh supplies arrive over the next couple of weeks. And making the photos was fun, too. And while I like both, I am still favoring the one-of-each layout.

If he plays enough pieces with enough low-Gs and B-naturals, they'll stay nice and shiny.
