- NEW mouthpipe (bloke-made)
- NICE valves (one was already nice, two are rebuilt)
- INCORRECT worn-silver "MARTIN" recording bell (CORRECT collar size - which was fortunate)
- INCLUDED ProTec NEW bag (in which it fits, put together.
- Schmenges approved and certified
(These are 5/4 size, and .687" bore.)

$800 plus some sort of shipping (two cartons?) or pick-up

To my knowledge, these featured bottom bow caps.
Back when (1970's, etc.) people sent their instruments in for "complete overhauls", (sadly) quite a few overhaul shops would remove those caps, toss them in the scrap, not repair them, and not reinstall them. ...I'm not seeing a cap on that instruments (only guard wire), so I guess I'm assuming that it has been "overhauled".

Also didn't that model have a factory tuner on the first valve as a rule?

I've seen pics of the big Reynolds horns with and without the tuning jigger (which is in bloke's pic), so I assumed it was an option, not standard equipment.

According to the Contempora Corner site, the trigger came along ca. 1952, so it could be from '36 - '52. I believe some were also sold with F E Olds engraving, I think without the trigger. I was going to guess that the trigger was specific to the 3V configuration, but apparently not.

I'm surprised that thing hasn't been picked off yet.

I suspect that more than one or two of those center tuning gadgets was removed from those. Being perfectly candid, I removed one from the three valve that I am offering up for sale and stuck it on someone’s main tuning slide on their fancy-schmancy tuba.

So, what's the skinny on these horns? It's fairly close to me and I am somewhat tempted to at least go check it out. I have never played, or seen in person (AFAIK) a Reynolds in my 20+ years playing. Size is a little hard to gauge from pics. Typical haracteristics?

My favorite summary i'd heard of what to expect from a Reynolds is that that they're like Kings (presumable referring to 1240/1241) on steroids. And i take the analogy in two ways... They are louder (or it seems easier to drive it into that really loud outdoor voice) but one tends to lose one's temper (pitch) if one isn't careful. Hence them adding the first slide kicker to help correct this perceived flaw.

I will say that my first experience with a Reynolds recording bass, i played in a parking lot with nothing around me and was, sure, it sounds fine. Then a little while later played it indoors with a wall in front of me, and it's the closest i've come to reenacting the opening scene from Back to the Future.

As luck would have it, this scene can be found on youtube. Kid plays a chord on an electric guitar in front of a giant speaker that sends him flying. So ... you say this like it's a bad thing?
