first subscription concert of the season
- Capriccio Espagnol - Rimsky Korsakov (most any tuba...??)
- Le Cid - Massenet (probably F tuba)
- Danzon No. 2 - Márquez (FatBastard, for sure)
===========================================
runout - very next day (FatBastard on all, including several I omitted from this list)
skipping past some of the schlock that's also slated for this concert:
- Fanfare for the Common Man
- Hymn to the Fallen - J. Williams
- Porgy & Bess - Gershwin/Bennett medley
- West Side Story Bernstein/Mason medley
- Send in the Clowns - Sondheim (tuba soli line, first five bars)
- Ashoken Farewell - Ungar
- The Magnificent Seven - Elmer Bernstein
...There's one really well-written NYC-tunes medley where contrabass trombone would be best, but I ain't luggin' it for that piece.
no: not Mahler II, but decent season opener concert tuba rep.

Do the Rimsky on the Eb. The ending is fun on the Eb tuba, heh, heh…

This one per-service orchestra's alone season is starting off really strong.
After the concerts mentioned, there's a big (still in September) outdoor (annual/free to the public) concert (1812, and all that jazz), ANOTHER pops concert in mid-October, and - just a couple of weeks later (another FatBastard concerto) "Carmina Burana".

Re: no: not Mahler II, but decent season opener concert tuba rep.
Honestly, I would like to try it on the Magnificent Seven Suite (that’s the name of the piece, but it’s actually just an overture). The trombone section would love it, the Music Director would completely allow it, and would probably also smile. He likes “teeth” in the sound, when deemed appropriate. Something tells me that he listens to recordings wearing headphones (or through very expensive speakers) and at high volume levels.
Maybe I’ll toss the thing in the car…(??)
Why not?

When in doubt, blame the wire choir and proceed appropriately.
