Bobo - Mastering The Tuba Bk 1

Post by Tim Jackson »

Just wondering if anyone out there may have studied with Roger on a steady basis and could share how and if he utilized this book in his studio.

I am looking at the original printing of Mastering the Tuba Book 1 by Roger Bobo. Most of the stuff I find on the internet on Roger's teachings has to do with musicality. Looking at the book and playing/seeing what he found useful in developing skills to play music on the tuba is fascinating.

Roger Bobo has been an inspiration to me since college. Every time I hear those recordings on the debut album I am in awe. In ancient times - us old players would go to the music library and listen to this stuff on vinyl... get inspired, and go back down to the practice room and hit it till our lips fell off- too dumb to know or worry about dystonia. I did have some friends that suffered from getstonia - an infectious condition that was usually passed down by the trombone players (super spreaders). I'm thankful to have the book as a window into his ideas for developing great playing.
