Re: Tuba bell roller
A sort-of beginner might spend the money for a longer one...to reduce the chances of putting deep cut marks in a bell (by running off the end of a roller)...particularly if you think you might be doing any sousaphones (ie. slicking others' stuff out of for money, rather than just to get stuff ready to flip).
Also, smaller diameter ones can apply more pressure, though - often - I tend to use a larger diameter one.
I have no idea what people are selling these days.
I ain't buyin', so I haven't been lookin' (just as with "What new models of tubas are out there?"...ie. I don't care.
I keep a thin coat of STP on mine, and wrap them in waxed paper.
Others - who know more about what's for sale now, and have fancier ways of maintaining theirs - will tell you other stuff.

Re: Tuba bell roller
I visit my repairman with my projects and he helps me, lets me use his equipment, gives pointers, etc. I have made my fair share of crease mark booboos!
