Lots of stuff gets rotated in and out during various times of life. These are bort jr and bortette’s (I don’t know if there is a little girl, just guessing) wonder years. They are fleeting. Clearly bort knows this. Mine is now of an age and ability to join in with us in a community band as a family activity. He sounds interested and we’re hopeful we find a good situation. I think that if bort kept an acceptable tuba around it would benefit the little borts and much as it would dad. It doesn’t have to be his ideal, just serviceable.

And yes, I have "a tuba" in the Martin Eb, which isn't my ideal, but dang it's a fun tuba. That one is never leaving.

And yes, the years are fleeting. My older son wants to play video games (ok, fine, for a while), but then asks to play catch in the yard? Heck yeah I'm dropping everything. My 6 year old asks me to draw with him or play chess(!)? Sorry tuba, go on and collect your dust. I'll be back for your soon enough. The hard part -- both kids tugging at me and asking for different things at the same time. Drives me insane, but it's the best possible problem to have.

Priorities are NOT a bad thing.

My bands rehearse in the evening when the kids are in bed, so I am not losing too much time with them. I don't always practice enough at home but when they are sleeping it doesn't seem to bother them or wake them luckily
