No one sings the anthem anymore, not at high school, not at college, not anywhere. All part of the current “entertain me” mentality.
I do. Around here (pre-covid Northern Colorado) a lot of the audience do/did. Way more than at ballgames. And yes, I smile when someone shouts "play ball."

Its sad that the music people don't want to play it any more. Cretins, even Gaga sang it.

My favorite gigs since I moved to Pot-orado have always been the summer park gigs, I used to be able to do tons of them 2 or three a week at least all summer long and I miss them. I so hope to be able to get out soon there is something special about playing the SSB straight from a band shell and seeing dozens of rest home seniors haul themselves up to standing and singing that National Anthem. But the one that always makes me weep is looking out over the crowd while playing America The Beautiful

2-3 times weekly? Dang... Do you need a stand partner? Maybe I can retire a little early.

If they ever start up again sure! For now the "Band Board" types are real quiet with no announced plans to resume as yet, woodwind players!

I don't want to fuss too loudly, as I've played a number of jobs throughout this last year, but it would be great to have some fun gigs like that.

Sadly, we haven't had a community band anywhere around here for years. I played a couple of years with the Houston Brass Band (BBB) until I divorced my then-wife and got custody of my children. It was an hour away on a weeknight, so I gave that up. At least I got to play with Steve Curtis and Ali Jackson, and that was a treat! And my kids are grown, so it's been a while. Other playing opportunities and gigs are pretty slim compared to the days of yore - they used to be plentiful, so forgive me if I'm envious of that 2-3X per week thing.

Woodwind players always seem to be on those boards. :eyes: I guess the brass players are too busy to be on boards because of the bold, confident, I-ain't-skeered, let's-do-this, successful lives they lead...?
