Re: Industry News-Buffet-Crampon
Found a Belgian article from July and had the magic of the internet translate it:
original: https://www.lecho.be/entreprises/genera ... 54216.html
Alcopa, the investment vehicle of the Belgian Moorkens family, is in the final stages of acquiring Buffet Crampon. This information comes from the French newsletter L'Informe and has been confirmed to De Tijd/L'Echo. The date of conclusion of the agreement is not yet known. Alcopa declined to comment.
Buffet Crampon is a renowned brand in the world of music. Founded centuries ago, the company started out as a manufacturer of clarinets, but today also produces saxophones, oboes, English horns and bassoons. American film legend Woody Allen, who is also a musician, regularly plays on a copy of "the Rolls Royce of clarinets".
Since 2012, the company has been mainly owned (91%) by the investment fund Trail Capital, which replaced another financial entity, Argos Soditic, in the capital that year. At the time, Buffet Crampon was valued at around €60 million, almost eight times its annual gross profit at the time. The value of the company in the current transaction is still uncertain.
According to the newspaper Les Echos, the company achieved a turnover of 110 million euros last year, more than 95% of which came from abroad.
Buffet Crampon has experienced significant growth in recent years, thanks in part to its diversification beyond wind instruments with the acquisition of Bergerault, which specializes in xylophones, marimbas, timpani and other classical percussion instruments.
The group has six production sites in France, Germany, China and the United States, and employs around 900 people. According to the newspaper Les Echos, the company achieved a turnover of 110 million euros last year, more than 95% of which came from abroad.
Alcopa - the name refers to the founders Albert and Constance Moorkens and the "pa" for "participation" - was originally a manufacturer and distributor of motorcycles. However, the Moorkens descendants have been investing the family heritage in other areas for years.
For example, Alcopa holds shares in Group Thys (interior doors and furniture), the producer of pallets and pellets François, and Solar Screen, which specialises in solar films. The holding company is also active in real estate. Its portfolio also includes Alcopa Auction, a car distributor, Moteo, a distributor of engines and scooters, CBM (distribution of spare parts for buses), Sapim, a manufacturer of bicycle spokes, and Lavance (car and truck washes).
The branch led by Leopold Moorkens, represented by his son Axel, recently invested in the listed investment company Whitestone. In exchange for an investment of around €9 million, the family acquired a 10% stake in the holding company.
