WTB Buescher Sousaphone Bell Screw (at least one)

Post by EmptyCase »

I'm looking to by a Buescher sousaphone bell screw, at least one, for my Buescher jumbo. The Buescher bell screws are not like normal ones as the end of the thread is ground off to a smaller diameter as its not threaded all the way through. I have some conn screws that were adapted to fit, however they look out of place being the allied standard ones you can buy. This horn is almost entirely perfect, so I might as well try and get a bell screw that I can replicate. (even if its just to borrow one to have it reproduced and the returned)

Ditto. If you could post a picture, it would be easier to look though my bucket o’ bell screws.

You seem to hint (??) that 1/4 - 20 thread fits, and that's my experience with Buescher recording bell tubas. The genuine Conn bell screws are more ornate than the generic Allied and would probably look really nice on a Buescher. Once you've done that, you can put your other genuine bell screws in your sock drawer just in case you ever find one more.

I don’t have an original. I emailed the Simonetti museum if he could provide me with a picture of one off of one of his. Currently trying to reproduce a replica bell screw mount as well since one of those is also not original and replaced with whatever allied had at the time. (Doesn’t help that drill press has stoped working…) When/if I get a picture back I’ll upload them

If that's a genuine Buescher bell screw - and assuming 1/4-20 threading - it appears to be a combination of Conn threading and King styling. Get some genuine classy looking Conn bell screws, turn the ends down to match the appearance of the one in the picture, and you'll have it.
