To step it up to another level, pull out your euphonium (for those of us who are playing slide-ally challenged) and become involved in a brass trio with a trumpet player and a horn player.

A few years ago, I met with a couple of talented friends, a few times.
Though I believe I kept up quite well (admittedly, I was reading, and the horn player owned the charts, with which he was familiar) and it WAS fun, I was somewhat of a nervous wreck after each session. (look ahead...LOOK AHEAD...LOOK AHEAD !!! move...MOVE...MOVE !!!)
Sadly, that horn player moved away soon after we began, and no one else has organized a trio since, around here.
