What is this a copy of?
They claim 3/4 CC. This is *curiosity*only* because I don't recognize the shape, and it's a rotary. Seems like it might be good for a high school kid who is determined to play a CC.

I've never known those to be anything other than "Yamaha-sized 3/4 bodies with a rotary valvesets slapped on them"Mary Ann wrote: ↑Sat Dec 24, 2022 2:55 pm They claim 3/4 CC. Re: What is this a copy of?
I had only played a Mack Brass BBb Jimbo version of this.
Had it a 16” bell I may have liked it better.

Re: What is this a copy of?
It's on the Jupiter site. A BBb version of this midget horn has been around for years. The BBb plays okay, small but decent sound. Valve section looks huge compared to the rest of the horn.

Re: What is this a copy of?
Out of curiosity, I looked it up. It is a proprietary Jupiter instrument, although I'm sure there are other Chinese equivalents out there. That said, Jupiter has two websites, US and International. The BBb version is the 1140 on the US website; the CC version is the 1150 on the International website. There appears to be no cross-marketing as to region. It appears to have essentially the same small bore as a Conn 5J, but of course completely different geometry otherwise.

Yamaha YCB-621 with rotors, as Joe stated.

Re: What is this a copy of?
Seems totally odd to me that they would market the CC in Europe and the BBb in the US. Totally backwards in terms of who would use what. Oh well? I did look at sites selling the CC and yup they are across the pond. Shipping something like $43.00. Uh huh. Would be worth trying to purchase one just to see them ricochet off the walls trying to explain why shipping is NOT $43.00.
621 with rotors. If one showed up I'd get a kick out of trying it. The piston one requires me to bend my wrist in a way it will not bend, hence all those "like that" are not even considered in "stable acquisition" musings. Way back when, I tried a Weril CC with that layout, and it was one of those "Oh geez I paid $$ shipping to find out in ten seconds that there is just no WAY I could play this thing."

Re: What is this a copy of?
I agree. I finally sold mine after years of trying to make that painful bend work. Lousy ergonomics, tilting the valve section like that!

Re: What is this a copy of?
What has occurred to me is that I eliminated ALL front piston tubas on the basis of not being able to reach the Weril or Yamaha (CC and F, I tried.) And there was one other three-front-valve something-or-other that had the same wrist problem, but I think it was a baritone.
However, that Eastman 832 (that is too big for me to haul around) had piston front valves and did not have the wrist problem. So maybe I'll see if there is anything out there that would work, if I somehow make it to a tuba conference and can try some. No more $$ shipping to find out in the first ten seconds that it won't work.

Re: What is this a copy of?
I have a 621f I’m happy with. Mine has the 16” Mack replacement bell and a main slide stick.Removing the thumb ring and just letting my hand float helped a lot. I don’t play it hours a day. It is reliable and all the notes work with no drama. Sounds better recorded than to me while playing. Small and easy to handle. I use the grippy pads Chris Olka recommends to position it where I want it. Works for me.

Re: What is this a copy of?
The main problem with the front piston set is the angle of the set; they are designed for tuba-sized guys whose arms are quite a bit longer than mine, which affects the wrist angle. It was just impossible for me, pain almost immediately, and I don't generally have pain problems with anything, so they just went off the list right away. If I make it to a conference, I'm actually interested in whatever Besson Eb has front valves, just to see how it feels / fits, because I still seem to do better with Eb tubas in terms of air. I just like the SOUND of the CC in the contra range; my rotor Eb just doesn't have that deep sound, at least with me playing it. I'm wondering if one of those Bessons has more of the sound down low that I like, while retaining the ease of playing of a bass tuba.
I'm thinking San Antonio with TMEA is more accessible to me than Ft Myers but don't know what the differences are between that and the Army conference.

Re: What is this a copy of?
TMEA is huge. Like the largest Educators convention ever. It's noisy, of course, but it has almost everything. But.. Yamaha doesn't usually bring their professional instruments, and mack has never been there. Mack didn't even come to the last Army conference I went to, and they are just down the road from DC
here are two 360 videos I took of TMEA in 2020. Move your screen around to see the entire photo
