Tubachristmas in Rome, GA

Post by GC »

We're holding our first Tubachristmas ever in Rome, Georgia on December 16. It's spearheaded by Dr. Dave Smith, a retired virology researcher from Emory University who's a serious tuba lover. Conductor will be Dr. Sam Baltzer. Location and time details are on the Tubachristmas web site.

Rome is about midway between Atlanta and Chattanooga.

Rehearsal in in the ballroom at the Courtyard by Mariott. Weather permitting, the concert will be outside. If not, it will be in the ballroom.

For a first-ever event in a small town, it came off pretty well. We had 16 tubas and 12 euphoniums, and the weather was decent enough that we were able to play outside. We appreciate the folks who came a pretty good distance to play with us. We had folks from Gadsden, Alabama, from Jasper, Peachtree City, Newnan, Carrollton, Atlanta, and other points scattered around north Georgia.

Thanks to Dr. Dave Smith for pulling this together, and to Dr. Sam Baltzer for conducting.
